This section is intended for professional developers to use in planning their own initiatives.  Included are documents on the Change Implementation Plan (ChIP) and overviews for each strand. 



 ChIP Guide
This document is the guide that Fellows use when completing the Change Implementation Plan.


 ChIP Rubric
This document aids Fellows by helping them to focus on specific information and requirements for each section of the ChIP and provides a detailed scoring tool to assist in this process.


 Connections Strand Overview

This is the Connections Strand overview.  This document is based on the principles of effective instructional design.


The Connections Strand is based on the following understandings:

  • Examining school data can result in good school improvement decisions.
  • All teachers in a school can work toward the same instructional goal.
  • What we think students are learning as a result of our teaching is sometimes not borne out by the way we assess students.
  • There are different levels of understanding and different ways to prove one's understanding.
  • Some of the best professional development comes from teachers learning from and with each other.
  • Teachers working in their schools to effect change need support from others who are trying to do the same.



 Curriculum Integration Strand Overview

This is the Curriculum Integration Strand Overview.  This document is based on the principles of effective instructional design.

The Curriculum Integration Strand is based on the following understandings:

  • Effective instruction increases student learning.
  • Technology, when used appropriately, supports effective instruction and enhances student learning.
  • Backward design helps to focus instruction appropriately.



 Digital Content Strand Overview

This is the Digital Content Strand Overview.  This document is based on the principles of effective instructional design.

The Digital Content Strand is based on the following understandings:

  • Technology, when used appropriately, supports effective instruction and enhances student learning.
  • With technology, learners may construct complex, creative learning activities.
  • Technology enables people to publish/share their work with both a local and worldwide audience.

 




 Expectations
This document outlines in detail the product expectations for Fellows participating in the Summer Institute.  This is a sample from the 2002 Summer Institute.


 Leadership Strand Overview

This is the Leadership Strand Overview.  This document is based on the principles of effective instructional design.

The Leadership Strand is based on the following understandings:

  •        A vision for technology integration is essential.
  •        Change is a process that occurs at different rates for different people.
  •        Effective leadership is necessary to implement a new vision for technology.

        Adult learners have specific learning needs that are met by using a variety of strategies and professional development models.

 




 Planning Session Guidelines

This document is designed to be a tool to guide planners through designing the individual sessions related to each strand.  Typically each strand has 3-5 sessions associated with it.
